What Are the Benefits of Revision Rhinoplasty?
Although requests for secondary rhinoplasty are fairly uncommon (especially when the initial procedure was performed by a reputable surgeon),* patients may desire a revision for a number of reasons, such as:
- Side profile issues (e.g. dorsal irregularities, pollybeak deformity, or a droopy tip)
- Front profile issues (residual deviation or asymmetry; pinched tip; lack of tip definition)
- Functional concerns (such as nasal congestion or discharge)*

What Does the Revision Rhinoplasty Procedure Entail?
The scarring and distortion of the anatomy from the previous operation can add a significant layer of complexity to a revision rhinoplasty procedure. Meanwhile, the skin is often less compliant after the initial nose surgery, and the septum may be considerably weaker. These phenomena can lead to a less straightforward recovery and outcome; however, Mr Townley has the advanced training and meticulous skill to perform this surgery.
The specifics of your revision rhinoplasty will depend on the extent of your previous surgery, as well as your unique situation and desired outcomes. Depending on the location of the original incisions, Mr Townley may make the corrective incisions using the “open” or “closed” technique. He will then remove excess scar tissue, address deviations, and refine the tip and/or bridge of the nose as needed. Additionally, a rib graft is often required to shape the nose and support a weakened septum. Mr Townley may suggest you incorporate other procedures, such as facelift surgery, into your treatment plan for a more comprehensive rejuvenation.
What Can I Expect From Revision Rhinoplasty Recovery?
Revision rhinoplasty is performed under general anaesthesia; an overnight stay may be required in some cases. As a highly nuanced procedure, revision rhinoplasty typically takes between two and a half to three and a half hours to complete.
Following a revision rhinoplasty, most patients need about two weeks of social dowtime. Patients can expect swelling, bruising, and discomfort, but these should diminish within a few weeks. Moreover, most patients will need to wear a splint for at least a week to support the nose’s altered structure.
